That special-teams edge proved decisive: two of USA's middle-period goals came with the man advantage (Bimmerle and Ellingsen), and Meier's OT winner arrived on a delayed penalty. Slovakia's 9 minor penalties — including three in a disjointed third period — reflected a side that pressed aggressively but paid for it. But USA's superior power play and deeper forward rotation — Slavick alone assisted four goals — ultimately wore down a Slovak side that took too many penalties.
