Belye Medvedi vs Snezhnye Barsy

Both teams came into the match on the back of narrow losses on the tournament's opening day (3 August): Belye Medvedi fell 2-1 to Omskie Yastreby, while Snezhnye Barsy lost 4-2 to Kuznetskie Medvedi.

Despite dominating the opening period — outshooting their opponents 14-2 — Belye Medvedi could not find a way past the Snezhnye Barsy defence. The scoreboard read 0-0 at the first break.

Snezhnye Barsy pulled one back through Rasul Tursynov on 51 minutes, who found space to get on the end of a pass in front of goal. But any hopes of a comeback were short-lived. Suntsov capped his standout performance on 60 minutes, rifling a shot under the crossbar to complete his double and seal the 5-1 scoreline.

Belye Medvedi's inability to convert first-period dominance (14-2 shots on goal) could have proved costly, but Orlov's opportunistic opener on 33 minutes — pouncing on a giveaway — broke the psychological barrier. From 1-0 up at the second break, the White Bears never looked back, adding two quick goals in the opening seven minutes of the third period to make it 4-0.

Belye Medvedi's 14-2 shot advantage in the first period reflects a game that was far more one-sided than the scoreless opening frame suggested. The 2-0 second period and 3-1 third period mirrored the shot differential, as the White Bears' territorial control eventually translated into goals. For Snezhnye Barsy, the consolation goal from Tursynov was their only successful finish from limited chances — a familiar pattern from their opening 4-2 loss to Kuznetskie Medvedi, where they also conceded four.

Belye Medvedi (1-1-0 in the tournament) responded positively after their narrow 2-1 loss to Omskie Yastreby on Day 1. They face Kuznetskie Medvedi next on 5 August (15:00 MSK). Snezhnye Barsy (0-2-0) have now lost both tournament matches by a combined 9-3 scoreline. They take on Sibirskie Snaipery on 5 August (11:00 MSK) in their third group game.

Both teams are using the G-Energy tournament as final preparation ahead of the 2026/27 MHL regular season, which begins on 9 September.

A commanding performance from Belye Medvedi that was as comfortable as the scoreline suggests. The first-period dominance without reward was the only concern, but once the breakthrough came, the White Bears showed ruthless finishing. Suntsov's emergence as a goal-scoring threat is a promising sign for their upcoming MHL campaign. Snezhnye Barsy remain a work in progress under new preseason conditions, but consecutive four-goal concessions highlight defensive issues to address before the season starts.
