Kolner vs Iserlohn Roosters

The opening 20 minutes ended 0-0 despite chances at both ends. Kolner needed only three minutes to retake the lead. New arrival Carlos Händel unleashed a wrist shot from the blue line that beat Jenike for 2-1 (38'), assisted by J. Munzenberger.

In the third period, Gregor MacLeod capped the scoring in the 46th minute. After build-up play from Kevin Niedenz and Frederik Storm, MacLeod went alone on goal and slotted past Jenike to make it 3-1. Iserlohn hit the post twice moments later but could not find a second (Haie.de).

Händel's quick response goal — just 3'08" after Krauss had levelled — was critical. It flipped the momentum back to Kolner before Iserlohn could build any sustained period of pressure from their equaliser. From that moment, the Haie controlled the remainder of the second period and carried that confidence into the third.

Kolner start their pre-season schedule with a confidence-boosting win. It is the first of several friendlies before the DEL regular season begins. Next up for Kolner is their season-opening celebration in MediaPark Köln on Saturday, followed by a training camp at Tegernsee from Tuesday (Haie.de). Iserlohn, under head coach Stefan Nyman, will take lessons from a competitive first outing despite the defeat.

A solid, professional start to pre-season from Kolner. The quick response to Iserlohn's equaliser showed composure, and new signing Händel made an immediate impact. Plenty of sharpening still needed before competitive action begins, but the platform is set.
