Ostersund vs Hudiksvall

Hudiksvall struck first. Maximilian Kilpinen converted a power-play chance at 2:10 of the opening period, capitalising on an early tripping penalty to Östersund's Olle Norberg. Viggo Nordström drew the assist.

Östersund responded emphatically before the first intermission. Albert Sjöberg equalised at 11:14 on a even-strength sequence set up by Kevin Arvidsson and Carl Holmner-Härgestam. Then, at 17:20, Brett Budgell — assisted by Logan Nijhoff and Alexander Ljungkrantz — put Östersund ahead 2-1.

The home side carried that momentum into the middle frame. Sjöberg struck again at 28:14, this time on the power play after Anton Schagerberg was sent off for interference, making it 3-1. That goal proved to be the winner.

Hudiksvall refused to fade. Wille Johansson pulled one back for the visitors at 44:55, scoring shorthanded with an assist from Rasmus Kahilainen. But Östersund's defence, led by goaltender Hampus Hedman, shut the door from there.

Sjöberg's power-play goal at 28:14 — his second of the night — gave Östersund a two-goal cushion that Hudiksvall never fully erased. The goal came 1:51 into Schagerberg's interference minor, and it pushed Östersund's lead to 3-1 just as the second period was settling. Though Hudiksvall created offence late (15 third-period shots to Östersund's 5), they could never draw level.

• Albert Sjöberg (Östersund) — Two goals (EQ, PP), including the game-winner. Player of the match. His first-period equaliser settled Östersund after the early setback, and his PP strike handed his team control.
• Brett Budgell (Östersund) — Scored the 2-1 goal that flipped the scoreline before the first intermission. The Canadian import was a physical presence throughout.
• Hampus Hedman (Östersund) — Stopped 34 of 36 shots for a .944 save percentage, including 14 of 15 in a busy third period when Hudiksvall pressed for the equaliser.
• Wille Johansson (Hudiksvall) — His shorthanded goal at 44:55 briefly revived Hudiksvall's hopes and highlighted the visitors' resilience.

Hudiksvall outshot Östersund 36-33 overall, but the shot distribution tells the story: Hudiksvall managed just 9 shots in the first period (trailing 2-1) and generated 15 in the third when chasing the game. Östersund dominated the second-period shot count 19-9, controlling the middle frame when the winning goal was scored.

Östersund converted 1 of 4 power plays (25%) on 7:30 of PP time; Hudiksvall went 1-for-3 (33.3%) on 4:28. Special teams largely cancelled out. Hedman's .944 save percentage edged Ebbe Lundberg's .909 (30 saves on 33 shots). Discipline was relatively clean: 6 PIM for Östersund, 8 for Hudiksvall.

This was the first pre-season fixture for both sides. Östersund, preparing for their second season in the HockeyAllsvenskan, got a useful test against a HockeyEttan opponent. The two teams meet again on Friday 21 August at Holmen Center in Hudiksvall — the return fixture of this home-and-home pre-season series. Hudiksvall's regular season in HockeyEttan Norra begins on 23 September.

A competent pre-season start for Östersund. The early response to going behind, the dominant second period, and Hedman's composure under third-period pressure are all positives. Hudiksvall showed enough — especially Johansson's shorthanded strike and the late push — to indicate they'll be competitive in HockeyEttan this season.
