Sparta Prague vs Vitkovice

The opening period ended goalless despite both sides generating chances. Sparta's Jakub Kovář and Vítkovice's Patrik Švančara each stood firm through a scoreless first 20 minutes.

Sparta broke the deadlock at 33:32 of the second period. On the power play, Pavel Kousal unleashed a one-timer from the right circle off a feed from Kristian Vesalainen, with Jakub Sirota drawing the secondary assist. The goal came with Sparta enjoying a man advantage after a Vítkovice penalty.

The hosts doubled their lead early in the third period. At 42:30, again on the power play, Kristian Vesalainen collected the puck from Kousal, circled through the left side of the offensive zone, and fired a wrist shot through traffic that beat Švančara. Sirota earned his second assist of the afternoon.

Sparta put the game to bed at 45:19 with a shorthanded strike. Matěj Blümel — who scored a debut double in the previous day's 3-0 win — intercepted a clearing attempt in the neutral zone, raced in on a breakaway, and deked to his backhand to slide the puck past Švančara. Matyáš Michálek provided the lone assist.

Jakub Hájek replaced Kovář in the Sparta net at 54:57 and saw limited action behind a disciplined defensive structure as Sparta saw out the final five minutes.

The go-ahead goal at 33:32 was critical — Vítkovice had held Sparta scoreless through the first 33 minutes and the game was finely balanced. Kousal's power-play one-timer forced Vítkovice to chase the game, and they never found an equaliser. The back-to-back power-play goals in the third period (42:30) and Blümel's shorthanded dagger 2:49 later killed any hope of a comeback.

• Kristian Vesalainen (Sparta Prague) — One goal, one assist. The Finnish forward's power-play marker early in P3 effectively sealed the win.
• Patrik Švančara (Vítkovice) — Despite conceding three, the Vítkovice goaltender made several quality saves to keep his side in the game through the opening 33 minutes.

The Betmana match page shows periods of 0:0, 1:0 and 2:0 — a pattern that tells a clear story. Sparta grew into the game, generating nothing in a tight first period before dominating special teams in the middle and late stages. The 2-for-6 power-play conversion rate (one goal per game across the two friendlies) suggests Sparta's man-advantage unit is sharpening ahead of the season. Vítkovice's 0-for-5 on the power play across the two games (and zero goals in 120+ minutes of hockey) is a growing concern for head coach Yorick Treille. Sparta outshot Vítkovice in every period, building pressure gradually rather than bursting out of the gates.

Sparta Prague — under new head coach Patrik Augusta — have won three of four pre-season games (4-2 vs Litoměřice, 1-3 vs Mlada Boleslav, 3-0 and 3-0 vs Vítkovice) and look organised defensively. The clean sheets in both Vítkovice games will build confidence ahead of the Tipsport Extraliga season opener.

Vítkovice, by contrast, are yet to score in pre-season action (0-2 vs Olomouc, 0-3 and 0-3 vs Sparta). The return of Anthony Nellis — who challenged for the Extraliga scoring title last season — to the scoresheet is an urgent priority before the regular campaign begins.

Sparta next face Slovan Bratislava in another pre-season test on 22 August. Vítkovice will look to end their goal drought against Jihlava on the same date.

Sparta's defensive solidity and improving power play are promising signs under Augusta. Blümel's instant impact — three goals in two games — suggests he could be one of the summer's most valuable additions. For Vítkovice, the lack of offensive output across four pre-season games is an alarm that needs answering before the Extraliga season starts.
