Oberthurgau vs Wetzikon

Oberthurgau emerged from the second intermission and seized control within the opening seven minutes of the final frame. Lukas Weber atoned for his earlier penalty by scoring the game-winner at even strength at 45:52, with assists from Lauri Gautschi and Jacen Bracko. Just 56 seconds later, Laurel Rohner doubled the lead, converting from Justin Zent and Charlie Wiederkehr at 46:48. The game had flipped from a 1–1 scrap to a 3–1 cushion in under a minute, and Wetzikon never recovered.

The floodgates stayed open. Jacen Bracko scored his first of the pre-season at 54:14, sliding home a feed from Natanaël Elia Wey to make it 4–1. With Wetzikon's Gregory Bedolla in the box for tripping at 58:38, Schläppi struck again on the power play at 59:16 — his second of the night — assisted by Slogs and Nils Sejejs. Kevin Olsson added a sixth at 59:45 from Alessandro Köppel's pass to complete the scoring.

Andrej Schläppi (2 goals) — The equaliser at 16:28 kept Oberthurgau level at the first break, and his power-play strike at 59:16 was the fifth of the period. Two goals, both on the man advantage. Player of the match.

Lukas Weber (1 goal, GWG) — Went from serving a high-sticking minor at 36:56 to scoring the game-winning goal at 45:52 that sparked the third-period explosion.

Jacen Bracko (1 goal, 1 assist) — Set up Weber's game-winner and scored the 4–1 goal at 54:14, involved in two of the five third-period strikes.

The third-period onslaught — Five goals in 14 minutes from five different goal-scorers, two assisted by players who also found the net.

Oberthurgau's 6:59 of power-play time to Wetzikon's 3:39 reflects a discipline advantage that became decisive in the third period, when Wetzikon took four minor penalties to Oberthurgau's one. Each side scored once on the power play in the opening period, but Oberthurgau's second PPG — Schläppi's 59:16 strike — sealed the rout. Wetzikon finished with 10 penalty minutes to Oberthurgau's 4, a gap that proved too wide to overcome.

The 6–1 scoreline belies a competitive opening 40 minutes; the game was level at 1–1 after two periods before Oberthurgau's 5–0 third-period surge. The home side converted two of four power-play opportunities (50.0%) and killed two of three Wetzikon power plays (66.7%).

Oberthurgau continue their pre-season build-up with four more friendlies scheduled at EZO Romanshorn: EHC Bülach on 29 August (20:15), SC Rheintal on 3 September (20:15), and EV Lindau Islanders on 6 September (19:00), ahead of the MyHockey League regular-season opener. Wetzikon will look to regroup before their own pre-season programme continues.

A game of two halves — or rather, two periods and one. Oberthurgau's discipline and third-period finishing power turned a competitive friendly into a statement rout. The five-goal frame will build confidence ahead of the regular season, while Wetzikon will need to address the penalty count that unravelled their resistance.
