JoKP's Riku Sihvonen could not answer on the next attempt, handing K-Vantaa the victory.

Julius Janhonen had opened the shootout with a goal for JoKP in round one, and Koskinen matched it in round two. Neither side scored again until Koskinen's decisive strike.

JoKP — who had announced a loan signing for Luka Tiihonen from Jukurit just a day earlier — next face Ketterä at home on 3 September, followed by a return trip to K-Vantaa on 4 September. K-Vantaa, who recently signed Sami Moilanen permanently after a tryout, host JoKP again on 4 September at Kuljetusrinki Areena before opening their regular season against Ketterä on 11 September.

The H2H record now stands at 27 wins for JoKP and 23 for K-Vantaa from 50 meetings since 2009 — a series that has produced 331 total goals (6.62 per game).

A competitive, well-paced pre-season friendly befitting two Mestis rivals who know each other well.
