Dynamo Moscow vs Nizhny Novgorod

Torpedo struck first on the powerplay at 17:41 of the opening period. Daniil Seroukh beat Dynamo goaltender Maxim Motorygin off a feed from Vladimir Tkachyov to make it 1-0.

Dynamo responded early in the second period. Nick Merkley equalised on the powerplay at 24:13, finishing a play set up by Dylan Sikura and Jordan Weal. Then, despite facing a five-minute major plus game misconduct to Torpedo's Alexander Yaremchuk for kneeing at 33:28, Dynamo could not convert on the extended man advantage — but they did take the lead through Andrei Nikonov at 39:22 with a goal at even strength, seconds before the second intermission.

Torpedo answered in the third. Vladimir Tkachyov levelled the game at 46:26, with assists from Vladislav Firstov and Daniil Seroukh, forcing overtime.

In the extra frame, Dynamo controlled play, outshooting Torpedo 2-0 on goal. The winner came from defenceman Igor Ozhiganov at 61:45, with Egor Rimashevsky and Nick Merkley picking up the assists.

Yaremchuk's five-minute major and game misconduct for kneeing at 33:28 of the second period could have broken the game open for Dynamo, but Torpedo's penalty kill held firm. Still, the momentum had already shifted: Dynamo outshot Torpedo 14-1 on goal in the second period alone and built the territorial edge that carried into overtime.

The second period told the story: Dynamo outshot Torpedo 26-4 and 14-1 on target, yet led only 2-1 at the break. Torpedo's 24 blocked shots (to Dynamo's 16) and goaltender Denis Kostin kept them in the contest. The penalty differential was stark — Dynamo took 8 minutes, Torpedo 29 — but Torpedo's penalty kill limited the damage to one powerplay goal against on six opportunities.

Dynamo Moscow open their Moscow Mayor Cup campaign with a win in Group B. The tournament serves as the final pre-season preparation for KHL sides ahead of the 2026-27 regular season. Dynamo's next fixture in the tournament is against CSKA Moscow on 29 August, while Torpedo face Avtomobilist on the same day at Megasport Arena.

A deserved win for Dynamo, who dominated territorially and on the shot clock throughout. Torpedo showed resilience on the penalty kill and created just enough to force overtime, but Dynamo's superior depth in all three periods proved decisive in the extra frame.
