Visp vs Concordia

The game was barely three minutes old when Visp's Simon Wüest was sent to the box for tripping, but the hosts killed the penalty and then drew first blood themselves. Romanenghi tucked home from close range at 10:56 after Alessandro Lurati and Marchon carved open the Concordia defence at even strength.

Visp doubled the lead early in the second period. Daniel Eigenmann and Yannick Brüschweiler set up Lurati on the powerplay at 24:36, the forward converting his first of the pre-season to make it 2-0.

Concordia halved the deficit when Hugo Primeau scored on the powerplay at 32:09, finishing from Blake Richardson's feed after Jorden Gähler was penalised for slashing. The assist was the only shot Concordia needed to find the net on their first powerplay opportunity.

The Canadian university side carried momentum into the third period. Lewis Gendron equalised at 40:30, finishing a play started by Primeau to make it 2-2 and erase Visp's early advantage.

Both sides traded penalties — Alexander Gaudio was called for kneeing at 45:15, Isaiah Parent for slashing at 52:36, and Andy Ritz for holding at 55:39 — but neither could break the deadlock in regulation.

Just over two minutes into the 3-on-3 overtime period, Marchon popped up as the match-winner. Oliver Heinen and Sandro Forrer combined to set up the forward, who buried his second point of the evening to seal a 3-2 victory for the hosts.

Juho Markkanen played the full 60:16 in goal for Visp, making saves on all but two of Concordia's shots. Mathys Fernandez was in net for Concordia.

Concordia's equaliser at 40:30, just 30 seconds into the third period, flipped the game. Visp had controlled the first 25 minutes but the quick strike shifted momentum, forcing the Swiss side to chase a game they had led by two. Visp could not find a regulation winner despite two powerplay opportunities in the final 15 minutes.

• Juho Markkanen (Visp) — 2 goals against in 60+ minutes, steady presence in net for the Swiss League side.

Visp went 1-for-5 on the powerplay (20%) and killed 3 of 4 penalties (75%). Concordia converted 1 of 4 powerplays (25%) and killed 4 of 5 (80%). The special teams were evenly matched — both sides scored once with the man advantage and conceded once while shorthanded. Visp's discipline was better overall with 10 penalty minutes to Concordia's 12.

This was Visp's fourth pre-season fixture of the 2026/27 campaign. The Swiss League side now looks ahead to a home friendly against Chamonix (France) on 4 September, followed by a local derby against HC Sierre on 11 September before the Swiss League season gets underway. For Concordia University, the match formed part of their European pre-season tour ahead of the 2026/27 USports season in Canada.

A typical pre-season contest — promising spells from Visp early, a resilient fightback from Concordia, and an overtime finish that gave the home crowd something to cheer. Marchon's two-point night was the difference, but the Swiss side will want to tighten up after letting a 2-0 lead slip.
