Bytom vs Unia Oswiecim

Pavlo Padakin broke the deadlock in the 19th minute with a powerplay strike, converting via Yaroslav Hrebenyk's pass at 18:45. Just 44 seconds later, Andrei Buyalsky doubled the lead on an assist from Padakin, sending Bytom into the first intermission 2-0 up.

The hosts struck again early in the second period — Padakin netted his second of the afternoon at 22:33, this time set up by Buyalsky and Christian Mroczkowski. Unia finally replied at 27:49 when Otto Nieminen scored on the powerplay, assisted by Eetu Ventelä and Matt Wilkins.

Yevhen Fadyeyev restored Bytom's three-goal cushion at 46:36 in the third period, finishing a move involving Kamil Górny and Patrik Kubeš. Nieminen pulled another back for Unia on the powerplay at 50:43 (assists: Jakub Lewandowski, Kalle Valtola), but Mroczkowski sealed the result just 54 seconds later, with Buyalsky picking up his third assist of the match.

Bytom's turbo-charged end to the first period — scoring twice in 44 seconds (18:45 and 19:29) — effectively decided the match before the first break. Unia Oświęcim, who had played the previous evening against KH Energa Toruń, looked sluggish in the opening frame and never recovered from the two-goal deficit.

The hosts' discipline was also tested: Polonia accumulated 47 penalty minutes to Unia's 39, with Paweł Wybiral receiving a 25-minute misconduct, but the Bytom penalty kill held firm at key moments.

Bytom's 5-2 scoreline reflects clinical finishing rather than overwhelming territorial dominance — three of their goals came within a 44-second window late in the first and the first three minutes of the second period. Unia actually matched up well at 5-on-5 but struggled on special teams at critical junctures; both of Nieminen's goals came on the man advantage, but Unia failed to convert when they had extended powerplay time in the third period before Mroczkowski's dagger.

Penalty minutes ran high (47-39 in favour of Bytom's indiscipline), yet the hosts' PK units limited damage to just two goals against while shorthanded.

Polonia Bytom finished the 80th anniversary tournament with a perfect 3-0 record (5-2 vs Toruń, 7-0 vs Sokił Kijów, 5-2 vs Unia Oświęcim), providing strong momentum ahead of the 2026/27 Tauron Hokej Liga season. Unia Oświęcim ended the tournament at 2-1, having beaten Sokił Kijów (5-3) and KH Energa Toruń (6-3) before this defeat.

Both sides continue their pre-season preparations in the coming week: Bytom travel to HC Bobři Valašské Meziříčí on 4 September, while Unia host AZ Hawierzów on 3 September.

A thoroughly deserved win for Polonia Bytom, who were sharper, faster and more clinical from the opening puck drop. Unia's sluggish first period — possibly a consequence of playing on consecutive days — proved too big a mountain to climb, though Nieminen's two powerplay strikes offered glimpses of quality. Coach Andriej Gusow will be encouraged by his side's 3-0 tournament sweep ahead of the league campaign.
