Sweden turned the game on its head midway through the third. Edvard Hermansson equalised on the power play at 9:05, with Victor Klingsell and Melvin Gustafsson providing the assists. Then Theo Stockselius took over. The Calgary Flames second-round pick (2025) scored the go-ahead goal at 13:18, unassisted. He sealed the win with an empty-net marker at 17:18, with Nilsson and Tom Hallquisth helping set it up.

Sweden's third-period power-play goal swung the momentum. Canada had led three separate times, but Hermansson's strike at 9:05 of P3 — set up by crisp puck movement from Klingsell and Gustafsson — pulled Sweden level and visibly deflated the Canadian bench. Stockselius scored the winner four minutes later.

Theo Stockselius (SWE) — Two goals in the final seven minutes of regulation, including the game-winner and an empty-net clincher. The 19-year-old, who overcame cancer earlier in his career, announced himself as a serious contender for Sweden's 2027 World Junior Championship roster.

Filip Ekberg (SWE) — A goal and a strong two-way game. The Hurricanes pick now has three points (two goals, one assist) in three Showcase games, per NHL.com.

Isak Sorqvist (SWE) — Steady in goal when it mattered, making key saves in the third period as Canada pushed for an equaliser before Stockselius' winner.

Braeden Cootes (CAN) — Wore the captain's 'C' for Canada and was a force down the middle, creating chances throughout. The Vancouver Canucks first-rounder (2025, No. 15) was singled out by coach Misha Donskov for his leadership.

The match scoreline shows 5-3, but the period-by-period breakdown (1-1, 1-1, 1-3) tells the story: Canada led three times, Sweden erased each lead, and the visitors' 3-1 edge in the final frame — fuelled by a power-play equaliser and an empty-net dagger — was the difference. Sweden's discipline in the third period, conceding no penalties after taking at least one in each of the first two frames, allowed them to build pressure without interruption.

For Canada, this was a first look at the 2027 WJC hopefuls in game action. Coach Misha Donskov — an assistant on the bronze-medal 2026 WJC team — will have plenty to review, particularly the inability to protect a third-period lead. Canada faces Finland next on Thursday.

Sweden, meanwhile, earned its first win of the Showcase after dropping its opening games. The team will carry momentum into a matchup against the United States on Thursday afternoon. Theo Stockselius' two-goal performance strengthens his case for a roster spot at the 2027 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta (Dec. 26–Jan. 5).
