The second half followed a similar pattern. Replacement No. 8 Usarraga, a recruit from Brive, crashed over within minutes of the restart (41'), Barreau converting (33-0). With the bonus point already banked, coach Romain Mareuil emptied his bench (54'), and the tries kept flowing: Walisoliso powered through the middle (59', Du Plessis conversion), and centre Dachary finished a sweeping backs move (72', Du Plessis conversion) to complete the 47-0 rout.

Mont-de-Marsan's discipline remains a concern — they conceded 17 penalties total — but their defensive resilience, keeping Vienne scoreless through multiple close-range attacks, was the foundation of the win. The 4,205 attendance at Stade Boniface, the club's biggest crowd for a third-tier match in decades, underlined the local hunger for a return to the upper divisions.

Mont-de-Marsan sit top of the early Nationale table with five points. The match was their first in the third division since 1998 — 28 years — after relegation via the Pro D2 play-off defeat at Nice in May. Vienne, making their Nationale debut after promotion from Nationale 2, have been brought back to earth after a 700km journey south. There is no relegation from Nationale this season, softening the blow.
