Sharks vs Lions

The match started under early pressure for the hosts when wing Khuthadzo Rasivhaga was shown a yellow card in the 2nd minute. Lions fly-half Sam Francis punished the numerical advantage with a penalty goal in the 14th minute to give the visitors an early 0-3 lead.

The Lions hit back through a rolling maul try from hooker Armand Combrinck in the 53rd minute. Francis converted to level the scores at 17-17.

With time running out, flanker Meno Barnard powered over from the base of a ruck in the 76th minute to put the Sharks back in front at 22-17. Replacement fly-half Siya Masuku pulled the conversion wide, leaving the door ajar.

And the Lions walked through it. Deep into added time, Ethan Adams burst through midfield and the ball was spread wide to fullback Gilermo Mentoe, who finished a wonderful passing move to score in the 82nd minute. Francis's conversion attempt slid to the left of the posts, and the match ended 22-22.

Barnard's 76th-minute try looked to have won it for the Sharks, but the Lions' refusal to fold produced a grandstand finish. Mentoe's 82nd-minute equaliser after sustained pressure meant neither side could claim the bonus-point win they desperately needed in the playoff race.
