Australia struck inside the opening minute. Full-back John Grenfell crossed for the first of his two tries after Sam Blank carved open the Argentine defence, and Charlie Bird's conversion made it 7–0 before two minutes had elapsed.

Argentina responded well. Lock Simon Pfister powered through a gap in the 11th minute and Federico Serpa converted to level the scores, then kicked a penalty in the 15th minute to put Los Pumitas 10–7 ahead.

That proved to be Argentina's only lead of the afternoon. Grenfell barged over from close range in the 16th minute to restore Australia's advantage, and the Junior Wallabies ran in four more tries before half-time — Zach Fittler (26'), Luca Cleverley (32'), Tom Farr-Jones (36') and Toby Brial (40') — to build a commanding 38–10 lead at the break. But Tom Farr-Jones struck again for his second try of the match in the 50th minute, punishing a defensive lapse after TJ Talaileva's line-break. Argentina's forwards responded with a rolling-maul try finished by Nicolas Cambiasso in the 55th minute, converted by Serpa (45–24).

Australia had the final word through replacement Kingbenjamin Swerling-Finaipepe, who touched down in the 60th minute, with Bird adding the extras. Argentina wing Tomas Canedo scored a late consolation try in the 76th minute, but Simon Pfister's missed conversion left the final score at 52–29.

Argentina's 10–7 lead in the 15th minute was the last time they were in front. Grenfell's second try three minutes later triggered a torrent of five unanswered Australian tries before half-time, putting the game beyond reach. The Junior Wallabies scored 31 unanswered points in a devastating 24-minute spell that broke Argentine resistance.

Tom Farr-Jones (Australia U20) — The full-back scored two tries (36', 50') and was a constant threat in broken play, finishing with incisive runs that cut through the Argentine defence. A clear candidate for Player of the Match.

Charlie Bird (Australia U20) — The fly-half kicked six conversions from seven attempts and orchestrated Australia's attacking shape with composure, finishing with 12 points from the tee.

John Grenfell (Australia U20) — The wing scored a first-minute try and added a second in the 16th minute, setting the tone for Australia's dominant first half.

Federico Serpa (Argentina U20) — The influential playmaker was Argentina's standout, scoring a penalty and converting three of four tries, contributing 11 of his side's 29 points.

Australia's 52 points came from eight tries, reflecting their ability to find space out wide and finish clinically. Argentina's three first-half penalties were not enough to stem the tide, and their own four tries — all scored in the second half — came too late to influence the result. Australia U20 finish the 2026 World Rugby Junior World Championship in fifth place, an improvement on their pool stage where they finished second in Pool D behind France. Argentina U20 end the tournament in sixth place after finishing second in Pool C behind England. Australia's first-half blitz was the difference — eight tries to four, with the Junior Wallabies' backline operating at a tempo Argentina could not match. Argentina's spirit in the second half was commendable, but the damage was done before the interval. A deserved fifth-place finish for Nathan Grey's side.
