Argentina started at a blistering pace. Captain Tomas Dande sliced through the England defence for a stunning solo try in the 7th minute, converted by Federico Serpa for a 7-0 lead. England responded almost immediately — Will Knight crossed in the 12th minute after Hugh Shields' break, and Shields converted to level the scores at 7-7.

Ordiz's 15th-minute red card was the decisive moment. Before the dismissal, Argentina led 7-0 and had all the momentum. After it, England scored 28 points while the hosts were a man down, building a 23-point lead that proved just enough to survive Argentina's spirited fightback. The Pumitas actually outscored England 26-5 in the final 30 minutes, but the damage was done.

Hugh Shields (England U20) — The fly-half delivered a flawless goalkicking display (5/6 conversions, 10 points), orchestrated England's attacking shape, and provided the initial break for Knight's try. His composure under pressure was central to England building their lead.

James Pater (England U20) — Two tries (19', 49'), both finished with clinical precision. The Northampton Saints back showed excellent timing on his lines and was a constant threat with ball in hand.

Aiden Ainsworth-Cave (England U20) — A double from the Northampton lock, both from close-range pick-and-go drives (38', 41'). His work at the set-piece and around the fringes was equally impactful.

Simon Pfister (Argentina U20) — A second-half brace of tries (51', 77') epitomised Argentina's refusal to quit. His ability to finish in traffic kept the Pumitas alive.

England's ruck dominance (100% success rate, 47/47) contrasted with Argentina's 92% (51/55), the four lost rucks all coming in the attacking half. Argentina beat 21 defenders to England's 9, reflecting their dangerous broken-field running, but conceded 10 turnovers — twice England's count — which proved costly. Despite Argentina holding 55% possession overall, much of that came in the final quarter after England had already built a 23-point lead.

England finish top of Pool C with a perfect 3-0 record (15 points), securing a favourable knockout draw in the World Rugby U20 Championship. Argentina, despite the loss, advance to the knockout stages with 10 points from their two bonus-point wins over Ireland and USA. England's next fixture is the quarter-finals on 12-13 July, while Argentina will look to regroup for their knockout assignment on the same weekend.

A match that swung on a single disciplinary decision. Argentina were outstanding in patches — six tries, 21 defenders beaten, and a near-comeback from 23 points down — but the red card was always going to be too much to overcome against a side as clinical as England.
