Georgia U20 vs Uruguay U20

Uruguay started brightly and took a shock lead inside six minutes when fly-half Juan Francisco Pereira slotted a penalty from in front of the posts to make it 3-0. The lead lasted barely 60 seconds.

Georgia responded with a blitz of first-half scoring. Full-back Gabriel Razmadze produced a stunning solo try in the 7th minute, stepping through the Uruguayan defence from close range. Fly-half Nikolozi Khalvashi converted, and Georgia never looked back.

Lock Temuri Dzodzuashvili powered over from close range in the 14th minute after sustained forward pressure, and centre Luka Tabatadze added a third try two minutes later with a burst through a gap in the defensive line. Khalvashi converted both to make it 21-3.

The hosts continued to dominate territory and possession. On the stroke of half-time, hooker Luka Narsia burrowed over from a driving maul, and Khalvashi's conversion sent Georgia into the break leading 28-3.

The second half followed the same pattern. Narsia scored his second try in the 46th minute from close range, before replacements made their impact felt. Saba Nozadze touched down in the 63rd minute after a break from Giorgi Khonelidze, and Data Akhvlediani crashed over two minutes later from short range. Khalvashi converted both to stretch the lead to 49-3.

Uruguay spent most of the second half defending inside their own 22 and were reduced to 14 men in the 79th minute when lock Piero Veglio was shown a yellow card. Luka Narsia completed his hat-trick in the final play of the match, with Khalvashi adding his eighth conversion of the evening.

Uruguay's early penalty was answered instantly by Razmadze's solo try in the 7th minute. Georgia scored 21 unanswered points in the next 13 minutes after that, and Uruguay never recovered. The deficit grew with every Georgia entry into the 22.

Nikolozi Khalvashi (Georgia U20) — Player of the Match. The fly-half scored 14 points via seven conversions and controlled the game with his tactical kicking, finishing as the match's top points scorer.

Luka Narsia (Georgia U20) — The hooker scored a hat-trick of tries (40', 46', 82'), all from close-range finishes, and was a constant menace at the breakdown.

Data Akhvlediani (Georgia U20) — Carried 14 times, more than any other player on the pitch, and scored a try in the 65th minute that underlined Georgia's forward dominance.

Sebastián Pérez (Uruguay U20) — Made 17 tackles, the most of any player, in a tireless defensive effort that was ultimately overwhelmed by the volume of Georgia's attacks.

Georgia's 49 points came from seven tries, all converted by Khalvashi. Uruguay's solitary three points from Pereira's penalty in the 6th minute were their first points of the tournament. The hosts dominated possession and territory, with 75 rucks won to Uruguay's 45, and Georgia entered the opposition 22 on 17 occasions compared to Uruguay's two. Georgia won 52% of their rucks within three seconds, while Uruguay managed only 27% at that speed.

Georgia finish Pool A with five points from two matches (one win against Uruguay, one loss to South Africa in round one). Uruguay end their tournament without a point and a points difference of -144 across three heavy defeats — 64-0 to South Africa, 80-0 to Wales, and 49-3 to Georgia. The result confirms Uruguay's relegation back to the World Rugby U20 Trophy for 2027.

Georgia's next fixture will be a classification match in the tournament's placement rounds, while Uruguay will return to the U20 Trophy competition after a single year in the top tier.

Georgia did exactly what a host nation should do against the tournament's bottom seed — score early, score often, and never let the opposition settle. Uruguay's defensive effort was admirable in patches, but they lacked the attacking structure to trouble a well-drilled Georgian side. The 49-3 scoreline was a fair reflection of the gulf in class between the two sides on the day.
