Clean Sheet & BTTS by Team

What is the Clean Sheet & BTTS by Team Tool?

This tool lets you look up any football team's historical defensive and scoring record in two key markets: clean sheet probability (the chance a team concedes zero goals) and both teams to score rate (how often both teams score in that team's matches).

Unlike the BTTS Calculator, which estimates probabilities mathematically from user-inputted goal averages, this tool pulls directly from actual match results — showing you the real observed rates from competitive football over multiple seasons.

How to Use It

  1. Search for a team by typing the team name in the search box. A dropdown list of matching teams will appear.
  2. Select the team you want to analyse.
  3. Choose a season range — All available history, Last 5 Seasons, or Last 3 Seasons. Longer ranges smooth out variance; recent seasons reflect current defensive organisation.
  4. Read the results: Home Clean Sheet %, Away Clean Sheet %, and BTTS Rate are displayed as percentage bars. Expand the season breakdown table to see year-by-year figures.

Understanding the Statistics

Home vs Away Clean Sheet Rate

Home clean sheet % measures how often the team keeps a clean sheet when playing at their own ground. Most teams concede fewer goals at home due to crowd advantage, familiar conditions, and the tendency to defend more conservatively when leading.

Away clean sheet % is consistently lower for most teams — typically 10–20 percentage points below their home rate. However, elite defensive sides (such as Atletico Madrid historically) can maintain strong away clean sheet rates through disciplined tactical setups.

Both Teams to Score Rate

BTTS rate shows the percentage of this team's matches where both sides score. A high BTTS rate suggests the team is both attack-minded and porous defensively — common in high-octane sides that sacrifice defensive solidity for goal threat. A low BTTS rate suggests either a strong defence (frequent clean sheets) or a weak attack (opponents may also fail to score).

Reading the Season Breakdown

The collapsible season table shows per-season figures. Sudden changes in a team's clean sheet or BTTS rate often correspond to managerial changes, key transfer activity, or tactical shifts — context that adds depth to the statistical picture.

Using Historical Rates for Betting

Historical rates are a strong starting baseline for clean sheet and BTTS betting markets. However, they should never be used in isolation:

  • Current form: A team on a 6-game conceding streak may underperform their season average.
  • Opposition strength: A historical 40% home clean sheet rate means little when facing the league's top scorer.
  • Team news: Injuries to key defenders or goalkeepers can significantly reduce clean sheet probability.
  • Venue-specific adjustments: Home ground advantage varies — some stadiums generate stronger home clean sheet rates than others.

Combining historical rate data from this tool with current form, xGA (expected goals against), and match context gives you the most complete picture before placing a clean sheet or BTTS bet.

Betting Markets This Tool Supports

  • Clean Sheet Yes / No — Bet on whether a specific team keeps a clean sheet.
  • Win to Nil — Win and keep a clean sheet combined (requires both conditions).
  • Both Teams to Score Yes / No — Whether both sides score in the match.
  • BTTS Accumulators — Multiple BTTS selections combined (understand base rates before building accumulators).
  • Score No Score — A market covering whether the selected team scores at all; the defensive data here helps model the opposition's scoring likelihood.
