China is one of the most successful volleyball nations, particularly in the women's game, where the Chinese women's team is among the all-time greats. The CVL Women features 20 clubs across 2 competitions.

Volleyball holds a special place in Chinese sport, with the women's national team's victories regarded as sources of immense national pride. The domestic league has grown significantly in recent decades.

Volleyball was introduced to China in the early 20th century, and the Chinese Volleyball Association was founded in 1953. The women's programme became dominant in the 1980s under coach Yuan Weimin.

China's women's team won five consecutive major titles from 1981 to 1986, including the 1984 Olympic gold. After a period of rebuilding, the team returned to the top with Olympic gold at Athens 2004 under coach Chen Zhonghe. Under legendary coach Lang Ping, China won Olympic gold at Rio 2016, with Zhu Ting emerging as one of the greatest players in volleyball history.

The Chinese Volleyball Association (CVA) governs volleyball in China. Founded in 1953, it is a member of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and FIVB, overseeing one of the world's most successful women's volleyball programmes.

The Chinese Volleyball Super League is the top domestic volleyball competition in China. The league has grown in profile and investment, attracting some international talent alongside developing Chinese players for the national teams.

China's women's volleyball team is one of the most decorated in history, with three Olympic gold medals (1984, 2004, 2016), multiple World Championship titles, and numerous World Cup victories. Coach Lang Ping and star player Zhu Ting are global icons of the sport. The men's team has been less successful internationally but remains competitive in Asian competition.
