The Czechoslovak Volleyball Association was one of the earliest in the world, founded in 1921. Czechoslovakia became a dominant force, winning the Olympic gold medal in 1964 and World Championship titles in 1956 and 1966.

After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the Czech Volleyball Federation was established. The Czech Republic has continued to compete at the European Championship level, though matching the heights of the Czechoslovak era has proven challenging.
