France — Volleyball

France has emerged as one of the dominant forces in world volleyball, winning both the World Championship and Olympic gold medal. The Ligue B, Ligue A, features 92 clubs across 7 competitions and is one of the strongest domestic leagues in Europe.

The French men's national team's rise to the top of world volleyball has been one of the sport's great recent stories, culminating in Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020 and a World Championship title in 2015.

The French Volleyball Federation was founded in 1936, and France hosted the first official Volleyball World Championship in 1949. Despite this early involvement, France was not traditionally among the sport's powers.

The transformation began in the 2010s. France won the European League in 2015, then sensationally claimed the World Championship title the same year. The crowning achievement came at Tokyo 2020, where France won the Olympic gold medal with an extraordinary come-from-behind victory over the ROC in the final. Led by stars like Earvin Ngapeth, France also claimed Olympic silver at Paris 2024.

The French Volleyball Federation (Federation Francaise de Volley-Ball, FFVB) is the governing body for volleyball in France. Founded in 1936, it is a member of the CEV and FIVB.

The Ligue A is the top division of men's volleyball in France and one of the strongest leagues in Europe. The Coupe de France provides knockout cup competition. French clubs have been competitive in European cup competitions.

France won the World Championship in 2015 and the Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020, establishing the country as one of volleyball's superpowers.
