Italy is one of the premier volleyball nations in the world, with three consecutive men's World Championship titles and the strongest club league on the planet. The Serie A2 Women, the SuperLega, features 97 clubs across 10 competitions and attracts the world's best players.

Volleyball is immensely popular in Italy, rivalling football in many regions. The SuperLega's packed arenas, passionate fans, and extraordinary level of play make it the benchmark for club volleyball worldwide. Italy's women's programme has also achieved remarkable success, winning Olympic gold at Paris 2024.

Volleyball was introduced to Italy after World War I, and the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) was founded in 1946. The sport grew rapidly, and Italy became a global powerhouse from the late 1980s.

The 'Generation of Phenomena' under coach Julio Velasco delivered three consecutive World Championship titles in 1990, 1994, and 1998, revolutionising the sport with their athleticism and tactical innovation. Italian club volleyball, led by the SuperLega, has been the world's strongest league for decades. The women's programme reached its peak with Olympic gold at Paris 2024, led by stars like Paola Egonu.

The Italian Volleyball Federation (Federazione Italiana Pallavolo, FIPAV) governs volleyball in Italy. Founded in 1946, it is a member of the CEV and FIVB, and oversees one of the world's most vibrant volleyball ecosystems with hundreds of thousands of registered players.

The SuperLega is the top division of men's volleyball in Italy and is widely considered the strongest club volleyball league in the world. The Coppa Italia provides prestigious knockout competition. Clubs like Perugia, Civitanova, Trentino, and Modena attract the world's best players and fill arenas across Italy.

Italy's men's team won three consecutive World Championship titles (1990, 1994, 1998) and has been a constant medal contender at Olympics and European Championships. The women's team won Olympic gold at Paris 2024. Italian clubs have dominated the CEV Champions League, with multiple Italian winners over the decades.
