Peru — Volleyball

Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in Peru, particularly the women's game, which has achieved remarkable international success. The LNSV Women features 24 clubs across 2 competitions.

Peru's women's volleyball team is legendary in South American sport, having won an Olympic silver medal and competed at the highest international level.

Volleyball was introduced to Peru in the early 20th century, and the Peruvian Volleyball Federation was founded in 1942. Women's volleyball became enormously popular.

The golden era came in the 1980s when Peru's women's team, led by the legendary Cecilia Tait, finished 4th at the 1982 World Championship and won the Olympic silver medal at Seoul 1988. Volleyball remains one of Peru's most beloved sports.

The Peruvian Volleyball Federation (Federacion Peruana de Voleibol, FPV) governs volleyball in Peru. Founded in 1942, it is a member of the CSV and FIVB.

The Liga Nacional Superior de Voleibol is the top domestic volleyball competition in Peru. The league has been developing to support the growth of volleyball in the country.

Peru's greatest volleyball achievement is the women's Olympic silver medal at Seoul 1988. The women's team also finished 4th at the 1982 World Championship and has won multiple South American Championship titles. Cecilia Tait is a national sporting icon.
