Colorado Rockies vs Cleveland Guardians

Travis Bazzana went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, Patrick Bailey crushed a three-run homer and the Cleveland Guardians rolled past the Colorado Rockies 9-1 at Coors Field on Friday night, snapping a three-game losing streak with their most complete offensive performance in weeks.

A Guardians bullpen that entered with a 4.62 ERA on the season delivered 4.1 scoreless innings after starter Joey Cantillo departed, extinguishing any hope of a Rockies comeback.

How It Unfolded

Colorado struck first. Jake McCarthy walked and scored on Willi Castro's RBI single to shortstop in the bottom of the first, giving the Rockies a 1-0 lead against Cantillo (4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 K).

The lead lasted two innings. Petey Halpin led off the third with a solo home run to right field, tying the game at 1-1.

Cleveland seized control in the fourth. Angel Genao doubled, Nate Lowe walked and Bazzana lined a two-run single to left off Rockies starter Tanner Gordon (L, 0-4). The Guardians led 3-1 and never looked back.

Jo Adell added an RBI single in the fifth. Steven Kwan drove in Bazzana with a groundout in the sixth. Then in the seventh, Bailey pulverised a three-run homer to centre field off reliever Zach Agnos, extending the lead to 8-1. Bazzana capped the scoring with an RBI single in the ninth.

The Turning Point

Cantillo's exit after 4.2 innings with a 3-1 lead could have exposed Cleveland's weakness. The Guardians bullpen carried a 4.62 ERA into the game. But Tim Herrin (W, 2-4) retired all four batters he faced across the fifth and sixth, striking out two on 17 pitches. Colin Holderman, Craig Yoho and Matt Festa followed with a scoreless inning apiece. Cleveland's relief corps combined for 4.1 innings, zero runs, two hits, three walks and five strikeouts. That performance turned a winnable game into a runaway.

• Nate Lowe (CLE) — 2-for-4, 1 BB, 3 runs scored. Lowe reached base three times and scored in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings, serving as the catalyst Cleveland's lineup fed off.
• Tim Herrin (CLE) — W (2-4), 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K. The lefty stabilised the game at a critical juncture, stranding a runner and keeping the Rockies at bay.
• Petey Halpin (CLE) — 1-for-3, 1 HR, 1 BB, 1 RBI, 2 runs. His leadoff homer in the third erased Colorado's early lead.
