At the time of the postponement, the Padres were in a three-way tie with Arizona and Philadelphia for the final two National League wild-card spots. Cleveland (60-64) sat half a game out of the final American League wild-card position.

The rescheduled date for this game had not been officially announced at the time of writing. The Guardians travel to face the Chicago Cubs on August 17, while the Padres head to New York to open a series against the Mets the same day. The two clubs would need to find a mutual off-day — likely during a shared off-day later in the season — to make up the contest.
