Philadelphia Phillies vs Miami Marlins

PHILADELPHIA — The Philadelphia Phillies extended their winning streak to five games with a 6-4 comeback victory over the Miami Marlins at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night, powered by a four-run sixth inning from the bats of Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott.

Trailing 3-1 after an error extended Miami's lead to two in the top half of the inning, the Phillies (69-58) sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth and never looked back. That set the stage for Philadelphia's game-changing rally against Marlins reliever Michael Petersen (2-3).

Kyle Schwarber momentarily appeared to blow the game open with a three-run homer down the right-field line, but the call was overturned to a foul ball after a replay review.

Miami narrowed the gap to 5-4 in the eighth when Heriberto Hernández delivered an RBI single off Orion Kerkering, scoring Conine.

Philadelphia answered immediately in the bottom half. Stott drew a leadoff walk, advanced on a Brandon Marsh single and scored on Kyle Schwarber's RBI single through the left side off Calvin Faucher to restore the two-run cushion.

Brooks Raley retired the side on 12 pitches in the ninth, striking out one, to earn his first save since July 30, 2023. He was aided by a spectacular game-ending backhanded stop from Stott at third base.

Bohm also contributed a defensive gem in the seventh, starting an unassisted double play at first base when he snagged a line drive and stepped on the bag.

Petersen entered the sixth inning with a 3-1 lead and recorded just one out before departing, charged with four earned runs on four hits. The sequence — a double, two singles and a walk — flipped the game entirely and wasted Miami's earlier advantage.

Alec Bohm, 3B/1B, Phillies — 2-for-4 with a double, a single and 2 RBIs. Since the All-Star break, Bohm is hitting .330 (37-for-112). He also delivered the game-changing defensive double play in the seventh.

Bryson Stott, 3B, Phillies — 1-for-3 with a go-ahead two-run single, a walk and a run scored. Stott extended his on-base streak to a career-high 19 games, during which he's batting .344 (21-for-61). Made two stellar defensive plays in the ninth to seal the win.

Zack Wheeler, RHP, Phillies — 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 7 K. Not his sharpest outing (98 pitches, four walks) but kept the game within reach.

Brooks Raley, LHP, Phillies (S, 1) — 1.0 perfect IP, 1 K, 12 pitches. Earned his first save in over three years.

Player of the Match: Bryson Stott — his go-ahead two-run single flipped the scoreboard, and his glovework in the ninth extinguished Miami's last hope.

The Phillies' 10 hits to Miami's five reflects the game's central story: Philadelphia's timely cluster hitting. The Marlins had baserunners (five walks drawn, plus two Phillies errors) but left several key opportunities on the board. The 2-0 error tally in Miami's favour also tells part of the tale — Philadelphia gifted Miami a run in the sixth with a throwing error, then overcame it with four runs of their own in the same inning.
