Maidenhead vs Wolves

Wolves controlled the first half without finding the net. Young striker Leon Chiwome, given the nod to lead the line, headed over Rafiki Said's cross early on before being denied from close range by Maidenhead goalkeeper Jordi Van Stappershoef. Kieran Trippier, wearing the armband, set up Tawanda Chirewa who was also thwarted by the keeper, who also parried away another Chiwome effort.

Wolves pushed for a second. Tom Edozie's stinging drive forced a fine save from the goalkeeper, before Chirewa prodded wide after good work by Lima. Tommy Doyle then set up Jackson Tchatchoua, who was also denied by Van Stappershoef, while Chirewa — the only man to play the full 90 — fizzed a shot wide from distance before firing the final chance of the game over.

Peixoto's wholesale half-time changes — nine of them — entirely reshaped the Wolves side. But the key move was keeping Mane on the pitch after his early introduction for the injured Said. The winger had already settled into the rhythm of the game by the time the second half kicked off, and his link-up with Chirewa — the other half-time survivor — produced the decisive moment.

• Tawanda Chirewa (Wolves) — The only player to last the full 90 minutes. Played the key pass in the build-up to Mane's goal and had several chances of his own, though his finishing lacked precision.
• Jordi Van Stappershoef (Maidenhead) — Kept the scoreline respectable with a string of saves, denying Chiwome, Chirewa and Edozie at various points.
• Kieran Trippier (Wolves) — Captained the side for the first half and provided dangerous set-piece deliveries, one of which almost set up Munetsi.

Wolves dominated possession and created the clearer chances throughout, though the 1-0 scoreline reflects a familiar pre-season pattern: a new-look side finding rhythm against a deep-lying opponent. Maidenhead's Van Stappershoef made several saves, keeping his side in the contest until the 59th minute. Wolves' 11 substitutions — nine at half-time plus Mane's early injury-related change and his later withdrawal — disrupted continuity but allowed Peixoto to assess his squad depth across two entirely different XIs.

This was Wolves' first pre-season outing in front of supporters under new manager Cesar Peixoto, following relegation from the Premier League. The win provides a solid foundation as they build towards the Championship season. Maidenhead, preparing for another National League South campaign, gave a credible account of themselves against opposition two divisions higher.
