Germany — Volleyball

Volleyball in Germany has a solid tradition and a well-organised domestic league. The 1. Bundesliga features 120 clubs across 10 competitions, and the Volleyball Bundesliga is one of the established leagues in European volleyball.

Germany inherits a significant volleyball legacy from East Germany, whose women's team was a world power. The modern unified German programme has produced competitive men's and women's teams.

Volleyball has a long history in Germany, with the game being played since the late 19th century. The German Volleyball Federation was founded in 1955. East Germany's women's team was one of the world's strongest, winning the 1970 World Championship.

After reunification, German volleyball consolidated. VfB Friedrichshafen won the CEV Champions League in 2007, and the men's national team has been a regular European Championship participant. The Berlin Recycling Volleys have become one of the country's most prominent clubs.

The German Volleyball Federation (Deutscher Volleyball-Verband, DVV) governs volleyball in Germany. Founded in 1955, it is a member of the CEV and FIVB.

The Volleyball Bundesliga is the top division of volleyball in Germany. The DVV-Pokal provides knockout cup competition. The league features clubs from across the country, with Berlin Recycling Volleys and VfB Friedrichshafen among the most prominent.

Germany inherits East Germany's World Championship gold (women, 1970) and Olympic silver (women, 1980). In the modern era, VfB Friedrichshafen won the CEV Champions League, and the German men's team has been competitive at European Championships. Beach volleyball has also been a German strength.
