Lech Poznan controlled the early exchanges without creating clear chances until the 29th minute. Captain Mikael Ishak, who spent two and a half seasons with Randers FC, slotted home from close range after Joel Pereira's delivery to make it 1-0.

Lech Poznan take a commanding 4-1 lead into the second leg in Poznan on 29 July. The Polish champions are strong favourites to advance to the third qualifying round. Aarhus must win by at least three goals at Stadion Poznań to progress — a tall order given the quality gap displayed in this first leg.

A ruthless, professional European away performance from Lech Poznan, who capitalised ruthlessly on Hansen's red card. Aarhus will regret the goalkeeper's costly error, but Lech's quality in the final third was the wider difference between the sides. The tie is effectively over unless Aarhus produce something extraordinary in the return leg.
