UT Martin vs Central Arkansas

Central Arkansas (1-0) won the toss and deferred, and the defence struck first — Bryson Adamoh intercepted UT Martin quarterback Julian Calvez on the Skyhawks' opening drive. But after a quick three-and-out, UT Martin drew first blood in dramatic fashion: Trey Cotton picked off Omolo and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown at 8:05 of the first quarter, putting the Skyhawks up 7-0.

The Bears answered on their next drive. Omolo found tight end Kealen Juniel for an 8-yard touchdown pass at 5:42, covering 81 yards in six plays, though the extra point was blocked. UT Martin led 7-6 after one quarter.

The second quarter was a back-and-forth flurry. Brandon Sims extended UT Martin's lead with a 25-yard field goal at 13:47. Que Tillman punched in a 3-yard touchdown run for Central Arkansas at 6:53 — the cap on a 15-play, 75-yard drive that chewed 6:54 — giving the Bears their first lead at 13-10. UT Martin reclaimed the advantage on Tommy Ansley's 7-yard touchdown run at 1:56 (17-13), but Omolo answered with 1:29 left in the half, hitting Arlie Lee for a 19-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was blocked again, but Central Arkansas carried a 19-17 lead into the break.

The third quarter was all Central Arkansas. Omolo opened the second half with a 51-yard touchdown bomb to Arlie Lee at 12:04 — Lee's second score of the night — and this time Caleb Jones converted the extra point for a 26-17 lead. UT Martin never got closer than five points the rest of the way.

The Bears' defence forced a stop on fourth down in the third quarter, and when UT Martin missed a 34-yard field goal attempt wide, the momentum was firmly with the visitors.

Donovyn Omolo (UCA) — 20 of 27 for 243 yards and three touchdowns through the air, plus 118 rushing yards on 12 carries (9.8 ypc). Omolo accounted for 361 of Central Arkansas' 471 total yards. A debut that sets the bar high for the rest of the season.

Arlie Lee (UCA) — Only two catches, but they went for 70 yards and two touchdowns (19 and 51 yards). His 51-yard grab to open the third quarter was the dagger.

Tommy Ansley (UTM) — 10 carries for 61 yards and two touchdowns (7 and 24 yards). His 24-yard scoring run with 9:49 left in the fourth cut the deficit to 29-24 and gave the home crowd brief hope.

Ashtyn Williams (UCA) — A game-high 16 tackles from his linebacker spot, anchoring a defence that held UT Martin to 3 of 11 on third downs.

Jalen Washington (UCA) — Sealed the game with a 27-yard touchdown run at 3:38 of the fourth quarter, the final dagger in a 13-play, 75-yard drive that consumed 6:11.

The box score tells a clear story: Central Arkansas dominated the line of scrimmage and the down-to-down battle. The Bears racked up 471 total yards to UT Martin's 296 — a 175-yard gap — and converted 10 of 15 third downs (67%) compared to the Skyhawks' 3 of 11 (27%). That third-down efficiency was the single biggest statistical separator: Central Arkansas kept drives alive, while UT Martin kept punting.

The 228 rushing yards on 45 attempts (5.1 ypc) — including 118 from the quarterback — wore down a UT Martin defence that had no answer for Omolo on the ground or through the air. The Skyhawks managed only 149 rushing yards on 33 carries (4.5 ypc) with no sacks on either side.

Turnovers were 2-1 in Central Arkansas' favour, and the Bears turned both interceptions into points. The two blocked extra points on Central Arkansas touchdowns were the only blemish on an otherwise efficient offensive night.

Central Arkansas starts 1-0 after opening the season on the road against a ranked FCS opponent — a significant early-season resume builder for any playoff aspirations. UT Martin, ranked No. 22 in the FCS preseason poll, drops to 0-1 and will need to regroup quickly after falling at home.

The Bears return to Conway, Arkansas for their home opener on Saturday, 5 September, against the University of West Florida at 6 p.m. local time. UT Martin's next fixture is yet to be confirmed.

This was a complete road performance from a Central Arkansas team that controlled the game from the second quarter onward. Omolo's dual-threat debut — 361 total yards and three passing touchdowns — is the headline, but the Bears' 10-of-15 third-down conversion rate and 30:18 time of possession tell the real story: they simply controlled the football. UT Martin showed flashes — Cotton's pick-six and Ansley's two touchdowns — but couldn't sustain drives or stop Central Arkansas on third down. A deserved win for the visitors.
